Please contact Thorne's Customer Service Department for further details.

Yes. If that happens, then contact Thorne and we will send you a replacement test kit for a shipping and handling fee of $5.00.

You have one year to activate your test kit, take your sample, and send the sample to the lab.

In most cases, your personalized results will be available in 5-7 business days from the date the laboratory receives your sample. In addition to your biomarker results, you will also receive insights about your results, as well as a personalized plan for diet, activity, and supplement recommendations.

When your test results are ready to be viewed, we will send you an email with a link so you can access your results by logging onto the Thorne dashboard. You can also access your test results by logging onto your account on thorne.com and clicking on the top right Profile icon that features either an image that you uploaded or a placeholder image. After you click on your Profile icon, there will be a “Tests” tab that you can click on to access your test results.

Of course. We encourage you to share your test results with your health-care practitioner. There are two ways you can do this. First, if your health-care practitioner is in the Thorne provider network, then go to your test results and click “Share.” Second, on the top right of your test results screen there will be a “Download” button. Click on the “Download” button, which will save your results in PDF format, and then you can either print or email your test results to share with your health-care practitioner.

Yes. Thorne has an extensive network of health-care practitioners. Click HERE to access our network of health-care practitioners. You only need to enter your Zip Code and the search results will show you those health-care practitioners in the Thorne network who are located in your area.

You can update your health profile by going into your account “Settings” and making the desired changes.

If more than five business days have passed since the laboratory received your samples, then please contact us.

Other questions

A Member’s Reward Tier is determined based on the Member’s purchases of Thorne products in the previous 12 months from the Member’s enrollment in the Thorne Rewards program. Purchases made prior to enrolling in Thorne Rewards do not count toward the Member’s Reward Tier. After a Member spends the designated amount in a 12-month period, the Member automatically qualifies to move to the next Reward Tier. The Member will be notified by email of a Reward Tier change. After a Member qualifies for a new Reward Tier, the Member will remain at that Reward Tier for the next 12 months, regardless of purchases made during that 12-month period. However, the Member’s Reward Tier after that date is determined based on the Member’s purchases during the previous 12 months. Thus, it is possible to drop down a Reward Tier if a member does not spend the threshold amount in 12 months. If a Member makes a return or cancels a purchase that puts the Member below the current Reward Tier threshold, then the Member’s Reward Tier status will change accordingly. Thus, it is possible to drop down a Reward Tier during a 12-month period.

Yes. Reward Points that have not expired will rollover when a Member changes Reward Tiers, even if the Member drops down to another Reward Tier.

The dollar amount associated with a returned order does not count toward a Member’s total yearly purchases, nor will a canceled order count toward eligibility for a Reward Tier. If a Member returns an order that made the Member eligible to move up a Reward Tier, then the Member’s status will drop down to the previous Reward Tier. Thus, it is possible to drop down a Reward Tier during a 12-month period.

The dollar amount associated with a canceled order does not count toward a Member’s total yearly purchases, nor will a canceled order count toward eligibility for a Reward Tier. Because a Member is charged for an order at the time of the order’s shipment, if an order is cancelled before the order is shipped, then the Member’s Reward Tier will not be affected.

The pesticide glyphosate has been in the news a lot lately, and we understand people’s legitimate concerns about it. Thorne is constantly evaluating the available methods for testing botanical ingredients for the presence of pesticides, including glyphosate. Currently, the methods to test for the presence of glyphosate are relatively new and not always 100-percent accurate, and we have not yet found a test method we are absolutely confident in. Thorne wants to give you the most accurate information, which we do for those botanical ingredients we test for 70 other pesticides and pesticide families. We anticipate we will eventually adopt a satisfactory test for glyphosate, allowing us to include it in our already extensive testing program.

Eligible customers must be enrolled in Thorne Rewards to earn Reward Points. Each Thorne Rewards member starts with zero Reward Points and begins to accumulate Reward Points after enrolling. Purchases of Thorne products that you make before you enroll in Thorne Rewards do not accumulate Reward Points.

Thorne Rewards members earn one Loyalty Point for every U.S. dollar spent on Thorne products, unless otherwise indicated — for example, when we’re having a Double Reward Points Day.
Members will earn Reward Points on purchases placed on Thorne.com, or placed by email, or placed by telephone.
Members of the Thorne Rewards program are assigned to a Reward Tier based on the amount of Thorne products purchased during the 12-month period that begins at your enrollment date. Each Reward Tier is associated with different benefits.
A member must be signed in to their Thorne account (for online orders) or provide their account number (for other orders) to have Reward Points credited to their Thorne Rewards account.
Reward Points have no cash value.
Reward Points will be deducted on ineligible orders, returned orders, and canceled orders.
Health-care practitioner customers do not earn Reward Points on orders placed by their patients.

A California consumer advocacy group called Environmental Research Center tested a number of Thorne products and found that, based on a product’s recommended daily use, 25 (out of 300+) Thorne products contained levels of lead higher than the extremely conservative Proposition 65 threshold limit for lead for birth defects or other reproductive harm. In addition, two products were over Proposition 65’s threshold level for cadmium.

Thorne Research notifies California consumers of those products that contain levels of lead or cadmium above their respective Proposition 65 threshold limits.

For information about the chemicals that are listed under Proposition 65, go to OEHHA or Proposition 65 Enforcement Reporting.

Each Member in the Thorne Rewards program is assigned to a Reward Tier based on the Member’s purchases of Thorne products during the 12-month period starting from the Member’s enrollment date. Each Reward Tier is associated with different Member benefits. Read more HERE about the different benefits of each Reward Tier (Retail Members, Professional Members).

Supplements

We are always here to provide a remedy in these situations. Please contact Thorne's Customer Service Department and a representative will be happy to assist you.

Thorne's NiaCel-250 is nicotinamide riboside, a specific non-flushing form of vitamin B3, so in that regard it is much like niacin or niacinamide. But it also utilizes a ribose molecule in its structure, and this ribose molecule facilitates the vitamin to be utilized in specific biochemical pathways for energy production that are not as easily utilized by niacin or niacinamide.

Most Thorne products can be taken out of their two-piece, pull-apart capsule. However, there are several products that we don't recommend taking out of the capsule, and this recommendation is indicated in the “Warnings” section on the webpage for the applicable products.

Although there is no generally recognized definition of “hypoallergenic,” Thorne strives to purchase the highest quality ingredients, we avoid using any unnecessary ingredients, and we don't use ingredients that contain hidden allergens. This ensures that Thorne products are as pure as possible.

Chelation is a chemical reaction between a mineral and a non-mineral. The term is generally used to refer to a compound that is made from a mineral being complexed with an organic acid or an amino acid. The resulting “chelated” compound is easier for the body to absorb. For example, magnesium and citric acid are reacted together, by the process of chelation, to form magnesium citrate, a readily absorbable form of magnesium.

We don’t recommend using a Thorne product after its expiration date. Thorne conducts stability testing on our products, which ensures the potency of every ingredient at the product’s expiration date. Because of our stability testing program, Thorne can guarantee that its products meet 100 percent of the product's label claims up to the time of expiration. Although we don’t recommend using a product after its expiration date, it certainly won't harm you if you do use it. It doesn't mean the product has "gone bad" – it just means one or more of the ingredients might be at less than 100 percent potency.

No. Furthermore, Thorne supports the objective of eliminating the laboratory testing of all animals.

Although many of the ingredients in Thorne products are organic, Thorne products themselves are not certified as organic.

Thorne is regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Thorne must comply with the FDA's regulations for manufacturing and labeling our dietary supplement products. In addition, all of our product literature and our website content must comply with FDA regulations. The FDA also requires Thorne to label the presence of allergens and to respond properly to reported adverse events.

We don’t use black pepper because it can irritate the gut mucosa in some individuals. Because of Meriva's superior absorbability, we don’t need black pepper to enhance its absorption.

Every individual is unique and every ingredient has a different "mechanism of action" for how it works in the body. Some ingredients can provide a relatively fast result, such as with pharmaGABA for managing stress, or melatonin for promoting sleep. Other ingredients, such as those in Thorne’s multi-vitamin/mineral products, are for preventative health and general wellbeing, so an immediate response would not be expected. However, for many Thorne products, if you experience an overall sense of wellbeing, such as improved mood, and that is the specific indication of use for which you are taking the product, then you are realizing the intended benefit.

The odor of a supplement product depends on its formula. Some ingredients, particularly botanical ingredients, can have a very pungent aroma that is totally natural, so their odor is more apparent and can be quite strong. A natural product that has a strong natural odor is perfectly normal. However, if you have a particular concern about a product's smell, then please contact us.

Color variance is normal for some products, especially products that have botanical ingredients. One reason for color variance is that Thorne does not use unnecessary fillers that are typically used to keep products uniform in appearance. So for a natural ingredient, depending on the time of year it was grown and harvested, color variance is not uncommon; for example, a botanical ingredient can be bright yellow in one lot and pale yellow in the next lot. Color changes can also occur as a result of changing the product's formula or changing the raw material supplier. However, if you have a particular concern about a product's color or appearance, then please contact us.

Although reformulating a product can occur for a number of reasons, the most common reason is that new research shows that a different formulation will enhance the product's benefits. Other reasons include a particular ingredient no longer being available or Thorne's inability to source an ingredient that meets our purity specification for it, in which case a reformulation is necessary to replace or remove that ingredient from the formula.

Unless otherwise recommended on the product label, our usual recommendation, to achieve optimal absorption, is to take your Thorne supplements with a meal. Plus, doing it this way reminds you that when it's time to eat, it’s also time to take your supplements.

The bovine glandular ingredients in the Thorne products Cortrex and Adrenal Cortex are veterinarian-certified as coming from cattle raised and slaughtered in Argentina, a country that has never had any instances of Bovine Spongiform Encephalitis (also known as mad cow disease) in any of its dairy cattle or beef cattle herds.

Thorne offers both forms of vitamin K2 in different products. The end result of vitamin K2 synthesis is two vitamin K2 subtypes known as menaquinones, either MK-4 or MK-7. Both subtypes are nearly completely absorbed in the body, with peak serum concentration for MK-4 occurring at two hours after ingestion, and for MK-7 at four hours after ingestion. However, whereas MK-4 disappears from the bloodstream in about 8 hours, MK-7 can remain in the bloodstream for as long as 72 hours. Thorne uses both subtypes of Vitamin K2. Thorne’s 3-K Complete contains significantly more MK-4 than most other multiple-K products on the market, in addition to MK-7 as MenaQ7®, the form used in the majority of MK-7 research. Both are soy free unlike many others on the market.

After Thorne manufactures a product that contains a known allergen, we perform comprehensive cleaning procedures that remove all allergenic protein from the production area. After this cleaning is completed, the entire room and the equipment in it are tested for the allergen to verify there is no allergen protein remaining. This ensures there will be no cross-contamination between ingredients that do contain known allergens and those that do not.

Some ingredients used in nutritional supplements are converted from their original natural form. In such cases, we say the ingredient has been “synthesized.” The starting material can be simpler molecules, such as amino acids or fatty acids. After a synthesized ingredient is received at Thorne, it is inspected for identification to verify that it is what it is supposed to be. It is also tested to verify that it does not contain any contaminants. Generally, there is no trace of the original starting material, even though the synthesized ingredient is molecularly identical to the starting material from which it was originally derived. If the raw material is from a potentially allergenic source, then Thorne always informs the customer of this fact, although the synthesized material is refined with sufficient purity to not cause an allergic reaction.

In nature, silicon is usually found linked up with a pair of oxygen molecules, and forms the compound silicon dioxide, otherwise known as silica. Thorne’s silicon dioxide does not contain any free silica. Silicon dioxide (silica) is very different than silicone, which is a synthetic polymer used in sealants and adhesives and personal-care products like antiperspirants.

When minerals are used as ingredients in nutritional supplements they can be in their original natural form or they can be obtained by synthesizing the original natural form to obtain a more potent or purer form of the original mineral.

Thorne is not aware of any contraindications in the current medical and technical literature that indicates that pain medications and antibiotics can interfere with the absorption of the nutrients in nutritional supplements. However, if you still have questions, then you should consult with your health-care practitioner.

Yes. You can take aspirin or ibuprofen (as Motrin or Aleve) at the same time because the curcumin in Meriva does not slow down blood-clotting time.

Thorne believes it is preferable to use the active, methylated forms of the B vitamins – such as 5-MTHF for folate and methylcobalamin for vitamin B12 – that are available. Several of the B vitamins, however, do not come in a methylated form.

The allergen notification for soy on the MediClear Plus product label is there because one of the ingredients in MediClear Plus – Grape Seed Phytosome – is made using phosphatidylcholine, which is derived from soy. However, the process used to synthesize the phosphatidylcholine removes all soy protein – the allergenic part – from the starting material, so the Grape Seed Phytosome is appropriate to use in the MediClear Plus 10-day cleanse program.

Yes. Thorne's probiotic products are stable and do not require refrigeration. Thorne periodically tests retained samples of each probiotic product throughout the product's shelf life to ensure the products remain stable and meet label claims at the expiration date.

The whey protein ingredient we use is manufactured using cold micro-filtration and ultra-filtration membrane technology.

Stress B Complex is formulated with additional pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) to support immune function and optimal adrenal gland function.* Basic B Complex contains an optimal balance of the eight essential B vitamins.

The vitamin D3 ingredient used in Thorne products that contain vitamin D is derived from lanolin that is sourced from sheep's wool.

Although the ingredients in Thorne's nutritional supplement products are not derived from whole foods, many are derived from natural sources. Some ingredients are fermented and some are synthesized, and we select every ingredient for being in its most absorbable and usable form. These synthetic nutrients are bio-identical and used by the body in the same way as naturally derived ingredients – whether natural or synthetic – and every ingredient is tested to ensure it meets its specifications for identity, purity, and potency.

Before we launch a new product, we subject it to accelerated stability testing. This testing subjects the product for 90 days to heat (40° C / 104° F) and 75-percent relative humidity. The product formula must demonstrate stability at the conclusion of this testing. If the formula fails this testing, then the product is reformulated and the accelerated stability testing is conducted on the new formula.

Although this is a question many people ask, the research to date does not support the conclusion that sublingual forms of nutrients are better absorbed than encapsulated forms. The research does support the conclusion that both encapsulated forms and sublingual forms are efficiently absorbed and do correct deficiencies. Encapsulated nutrients are absorbed similarly to nutrients in food; i.e., the nutrient is readily digested and efficiently absorbed in the intestines. Thorne’s goal is use nutrients in their most optimally absorbed form.

While we don't express our views about the claims that other companies make, we can tell you that Meriva's efficacy has been validated by more than 25 clinical trials that have been conducted with Meriva as the tested ingredient. Thorne is convinced this testing provides adequate technical substantiation for the structure/function claims we make about our Meriva product suite.

Although it’s certainly possible, most nutritional experts agree there is a nutritional gap between the nutrients consumed in today's diet and the nutrients required for optimal health. You can read more about building a healthy foundation with Thorne supplements.

ResveraCel combines 300 mg of nicotinamide riboside (NR) with other cofactors – resveratrol, quercetin, and betaine – that provide more comprehensive support for healthy aging. These synergistic ingredients also provide additional support for metabolic function and promote enhanced cellular energy production.

We put a manufacture date on a product that has had a formula revision or is a new product, but we do not yet have a completed stability study to support an expiration date. The first several lots of a product with a manufacture date is put on accelerated stability testing, and as soon as results are received the product’s shelf life is determined. Until an expiration date is determined, we recommend that a product with a manufacture date be used in the first 18 months after the manufacture date on the bottle.

Each 1,000-mg Hemp Oil + softgel contains 15 mg of more than 80 naturally occurring phytocannabinoids that are found in hemp, clove, and pepper. Although cannabidiol – or CBD – is one of these 80-plus naturally occurring phytocannabinoids, Thorne does not measure how much CBD is in our Hemp Oil + product.

Thorne has a longstanding policy to not use genetically modified ingredients in our products. Therefore, to the best of our knowledge, every Thorne product is GMO-free, even though we don’t label our products as being non-GMO. The reason we don’t label our products as non-GMO is because there are no current tests that can be performed to confirm an ingredient’s non-GMO status. Currently, an ingredient’s non-GMO status can only be affirmed by a supplier affidavit, and Thorne has chosen to wait for the time we can use scientific methods to confirm every ingredient’s non-GMO status.

Many Thorne customers who take prescription or over-the-counter medications want to know if nutritional supplements can be taken at the same time. For medication/supplement interactions we know about, we note them on the product label and our website. However, there is always a possibility that you could have an individual reaction to taking a particular medication and a particular nutritional supplement at the same time. Therefore, we always advise that you consult with a qualified health-care practitioner – preferably the one who prescribed or recommended your medication – before you begin taking a nutritional supplement at the same time. If you are looking for a qualified health-care professional who will discuss nutritional supplements with you, then Thorne has a wonderful resource, our Find a Professional webpage, to help you find one. You can also find a functional medicine practitioner through The Institute of Functional Medicine website or locate a licensed Naturopathic Doctor through the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians.

A qualified health-care practitioner is the best resource to assess your needs and make the recommendations that take your health into account. Because we can’t appropriately evaluate you, we can’t make personal recommendations. After you have a recommendation from your health-care practitioner, we can answer questions about the way the product works and how to use it.

Thorne also has the following tools to help you:

At-home test kits. One way to determine what you need is to take a test. Thorne offers a range of at-home test kits that offer meaningful insights and personalized recommendations. To see the range of at-home test kits we offer click here: https://www.thorne.com/tests
Quizzes. If you have questions about which product to take in a specific category, such as a probiotic, a multi-vitamin/mineral, a protein powder, or stress support, then one of our quizzes can help you narrow your choices based on your needs. Check out our range of quizzes here: https://www.thorne.com/quizzes.

We know you will find these tools and resources to be useful. After you have your Thorne products, we can answer your product questions.

Most nutritional supplements contain excipients that contribute functional or structural properties, such as fillers, binders, and lubricants. At Thorne, we minimize the use of these “Other Ingredients” and we refuse to include unnecessary excipients that can interfere with dissolution, or absorption, or otherwise detract from the optimal use of the product. Every ingredient in a Thorne product, including the “Other Ingredients,” are sourced from the purest sources possible. Each ingredient is scrutinized and preference is given to ingredients that are free of contaminants and minimize allergens. Thorne believes in total label transparency. That means there are no hidden inactive ingredients. Every ingredient in a Thorne product, whether active or inactive, is listed on the product label.

On occasion, a customer taking a prescription medication or an over-the-counter medication wants to know if taking a nutritional supplement can substitute for these medications. Because nutritional supplements can’t be used to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent a disease, we can’t recommend that you substitute a nutritional supplement for a prescribed medication or a recommended over-the-counter medication. Therefore, we always advise that you consult with a qualified health-care practitioner – preferably the one who prescribed or recommended your medication – before you discontinue taking that medication.

Depending on where you live and the time of year your product order is shipped, a Thorne product order can sometimes be subjected during shipment to short-term exposure to an extreme hot or cold temperature. For example, the hot temperature in the back of a delivery truck or a neighborhood mailbox, or the cold temperature on a residential front porch. However, in almost every instance, these short-term environmental stresses should not degrade or adversely affect the ingredients – powder or liquid – in a Thorne product in any way. And these environmental stresses are kept at a minimum because the great majority of Thorne products are successfully shipped from Thorne to the customer in just 2-3 days. To also help minimize these circumstances, we recommend that you be available to receive your shipment when it arrives so the product doesn’t remain exposed to an extreme outdoor temperature. But if you do open your shipment and you have any reason to be concerned about damage to a product, then contact Thorne’s Customer Service Department so you can be assured that you receive every Thorne product in its most optimal form.

The decision to discontinue a product can be made for a variety of reasons; for example, when a primary ingredient of the product is no longer available or when we find a better ingredient that is used in another product. You can find more information here.

Unless otherwise indicated on the product label, Thorne recommends that its products be stored tightly sealed in a cool, dry place, such as a pantry or cabinet. Products should be kept away from a location exposed to moisture (such as a bathroom) or heat (such as above the stove). And be sure your hands are dry before handling your supplements and, whenever possible, store the product in the bottle it came in and keep the lid tightly closed. Placing the contents of an entire bottle in a pill box or a baggie might cause the product to discolor or otherwise change in appearance. For additional information, you can read about the Care and Storage of Thorne Supplements here.
